In Mombasa and along the coast, Gecko on the Move (GOTM) has been instrumental in supporting two schools, with plans for expansion in 2025. Our primary focus has been on Cornerstone, a critically needy Community-Based Organisation (CBO) school located in a shanty village area, as well as a local school in Diani.
Drawing inspiration from our successful model in Tanzania, our goal is to replicate this approach by employing a local teacher to spearhead GOTM activities year-round. This dedicated teacher will not only facilitate our programs at Cornerstone and the local school in Diani but also provide training to educators in neighbouring schools on effectively integrating manipulatives into mathematics instruction. Additionally, they will model lessons in classrooms, demonstrating best practices and fostering a collaborative learning environment. Through these efforts, we aim to empower local teachers and uplift communities through transformative maths education initiatives.
