GOTM is a grassroots charity that emerged from a powerful moment of realisation in 2016. While travelling in the Maldives, founder Celi had a transformative experience teaching a maths lesson to a group of 5-year-olds in a local school. To her surprise, she discovered a scarcity of resources, particularly the absence of basic materials for teaching number bonds to 10. This encounter sparked the idea of creating a charity dedicated to addressing the lack of maths resources in schools and communities worldwide. Driven by a passion to make a difference, GOTM was founded with the mission to travel to underserved regions, train teachers, educate students, and leave behind essential maths manipulatives. Months later, a serendipitous encounter with Heather Welch from edxEducation, a manufacturer of high-quality maths manipulatives, solidified the vision. With this partnership, Gecko on the Move was born, igniting a journey of empowerment through maths education across the globe.
